Our Journey to Net Zero
RGE is committed to a clear and credible journey towards net zero. We recognise the need to measure, manage, and reduce emissions across our operations and supply chain, ensuring our actions deliver meaningful impact.
Our Strategy
Working in partnership with Optimised, we are measuring and assessing our Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and our Scope 3 emissions; setting ambitious but achievable reduction targets; and, developing a roadmap for decarbonisation across all Scopes. This structured approach ensures our progress is data-led, benchmarked, and focused on measurable results.
Our Scope 1 & Scope 2 CO2e intensity at RGE Baltic was reduced by 25.43% from 2017 to 2025:
Scope1: 2017 - 288; 2025 - 240
Scope2: 2017 - 4013 ; 2025 – 2239
GHG Intensity 2017 - 0,0001695; 2025 - 0,00012642
Our Activities
- We now procure 100% renewable electricity across our UK sites
- We have achieved EcoVadis certification in Europe, independently recognising our sustainability performance
- Emissions measurement and reduction are now embedded into our decision-making and supplier engagement
Our Commitment
We will continue to track and report progress annually, adapting our strategy to ensure we remain aligned with the wider climate agenda. As a leader in the plastics manufacturing industry, we acknowledge the challenges ahead. By combining accountability with innovation, we are committed to reducing our impact and driving positive change on the journey to net zero.
Recycling at RGE
RGE is committed to minimising plastic waste through efficient injection moulding processes, plastic granulation, and the use of recycled materials in manufacturing. We recycle our own production waste and also source end-of-life and damaged plastic products, which are processed and reused. In 2021, RGE Group launched its in-house Regrind Centre, located at our Whittlesey production site. This dedicated facility enables us to recycle end-of-life plastic products efficiently. Since its launch, the centre has undergone continuous expansion, increasing our capacity to process large volumes of plastic waste across a wide range of materials. Find out more.
Creating a Circular Economy
RGE actively supports the development of a circular economy for plastics, in which materials remain in continuous use rather than being discarded after a single lifecycle. We achieve this by giving new life to end-of-life plastic products through regrinding and reuse. In addition, we manufacture durable, reusable products such as crates and plastic pallet collars for returnable transit packaging. These solutions help businesses reduce reliance on single-use packaging throughout their supply chains. At the end of their long service life, these products can be recycled and reprocessed, ensuring the cycle continues. By keeping plastics in circulation, we help reduce waste and protect the environment. Find out more.
Solar Power
RGE has made significant capital investment in our solar energy installation at our Whittlesey site. Building upon the existing 250 kWh system installed in 2018, we are working towards achieving a total capacity of just under 1 MWh once the project in completed. On a sunny summer’s day, this means the Whittlesey operation can be powered almost entirely by solar energy.
Our Whittlesey factory also utilises the Intouch monitoring system, enabling us to schedule machinery efficiently. This ensures we use the least amount of energy while maintaining high levels of productivity and operational efficiency. Since the initial solar panel installation in 2018, we have generated over 2,082,770 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of renewable energy (as of Jan 2026), supporting our ongoing commitment to a more sustainable future for RGE.
Intouch Monitoring
RGE utilises the Intouch machine monitoring system to enhance energy efficiency across our production operations. Our production planning team uses the system to monitor and compare machine energy performance before scheduling daily production runs. By selecting the most energy-efficient machines when planning tool changes, we are able to optimise our manufacturing processes while still meeting customer requirements. This intelligent approach to production planning enables our factory to operate more efficiently, reducing energy consumption while maintaining reliable lead times and high levels of performance.
Environmental Management System (EMS)
We have developed a robust Environmental Management System that provides a structured framework for identifying, managing, and reducing our environmental impact. Our EMS supports a proactive approach to sustainability, ensuring environmental considerations are integrated into all aspects of our business.
We are proudly certified to ISO 14001:2015, the internationally recognised standard for Environmental Management Systems.
Responsible Waste Management
Effective waste handling, storage, sorting, and recycling are key components of our environmental strategy. We work exclusively with licensed waste carriers, hazardous waste is minimised wherever possible, and all waste is collected and disposed of in full compliance with Waste Transfer Note (WTN) regulations. This ensures that all materials are managed responsibly and in line with current environmental legislation.
Through these activities, RGE is actively working towards a more sustainable future with a reduced environmental footprint.
