From Concept to Completion

Product Design

With continued investment in our product design and research facilities, RGE have been able to push the boundaries of what can be achieved with plastic injection moulding.

Product design is the first stage of the production process, bringing the customer’s idea or concept into a fully formed vision. Our experienced team have worked on projects across a vast variety of industries over the years, and are able to apply their depth of knowledge to create a product of the highest quality, where functionality meets the right aesthetic.

The Design Process

With decades of experience and involvement in complex and innovative projects, RGE understands that attention to detail is paramount.

The design process begins with a customer brief. Our product design engineers are capable of creating designs from scratch, but often build upon the customer’s initial ideas, or help to adapt any previous designs that a company may have commissioned.

This first step of the process is vital to ensure that the customer’s vision can be realised, and outline the desired functionality and look of the product in order to create designs that are suitable for the injection moulding process.

Our design engineers build strong relationships to work in collaboration with clients and their in-house design teams, or design agencies that have previously been used, in order to gain an understanding of their style to ensure that future products align with the same design principles when building upon an existing range. RGE are able to work with both a fully formed idea, or happy to advise on your ideas using our wealth of knowledge and experience.

Designs Take Shape

Following the initial sketching and 3D modelling, our engineers use a range of in-house software packages to produce CAD, SLA, SLS, and rapid modelling. Revisions and changes to the initial designs are then made until the client is ready to move on the product to prototyping. Our team maintains a strong relationship with each client during the process, and ensure that the final designs meet their vision before prototyping begins.

Customer Testimony

‘It was invaluable having a team with in-depth [design] knowledge and experience to help me bring my vision to reality. Throughout the process, we worked together to find the best materials and solutions to bring out the features of the design, blending the best of style and functionality’
- Caroline Ephgrave, Founder of The Ephgrave Chair.

Quality Control

Whether it be the parts we produce or the service we provide – quality matters. Our team will work with you to understand the quality requirements of your mould tool and end product.

RGE pioneered use of the award-winning ThingTrax machine monitoring system - used to monitor the efficiency of our factories. Our QC team carry out pre-production tests on the raw material using Melt Flow Index (MFI) equipment to ensure it meets the requirements for the job. Tests carried out on mouldings throughout the production run include checks on the colour using a Spectrophotometer or Lightbox, as well as ensuring the parts measure within the agreed tolerances using a Co-Ordinate Measuring Machine (CMM). Learn more here

RGE is certified to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 across our UK and Europe sites.
